People say Mk23 mags leak on propane?

Why do I always hear that TM Mk23 mags leak on propane and need to be modified? I had a NIB Mk23 mag, took it out of the packaging and gassed it up. No leaks. So what gives?

It doesn't mean it will leak on propane right away on the first fill. If you want to use propane, go for it until it leaks and then do the modifications then. I don't have any experience with Mk23 mags but that's a bit odd considering green gas is pretty much propane so logically the mag would leak on green gas too.

They are notoriously bad for leaking. Same with Desert Eagle mags. Those guns were designed to run on duster. If it doesn't leak, great, use it and enjoy. If it does leak, you can try to swell up the bottom seal with Dow #55 o-ring lube. That works. Or some guys have tried to seal up that joint with silicone, that may work.

Yeah. If I have problems, it's gonna be JB-Weld to the rescue most likely.

the problem from what i understand is that they have a built in over-pressure valve that, with propane, is activated that thus releases the gas in order to remove the built up of pressure in the mags. thus, that is why why seem to always leak.

I've fixed 4 already, they're not easy to fix either

why do you say they're not easy to fix. i fixed two of mine that had been sitting in storage for over 2 years it took a day to soak the o rings and i havent had a problem since. just curious no disrespect.

yes tm socom mk23 mags leak on propane. its an intermittent problem and doesnt happen on all tm socom mags. i posted this link before so i will do it again. its a pictoral/demo on how to do the repair.

It's not easy compared to most other gas mags because of the third half pin that has to be drilled out to disassemble it. Everything else is the standard square o-ring gasket, plus the not so standard overpressure valve.

I've taken mine apart and fixed them with silicone 3 years ago and have played hundreds of games with them and they work fine.

yup,,and if you follow my repair you can get exactly,,not a theory,,tested it out myself,,150 bbs fired on one mag charge of green gas.

oh yeah i forgot about the third pin. mine were used so the pin was drilled out when i got them made for an easy fix.

yeah thats sweet i reloaded my only working mag 4 times until it finally ran out. and all i did was soak the o rings over night.
