Exactly. They started out as a measurement. Now .223 and .308 are names for a specification. There are many different specs of 5.56 and 7.62.

Don't try
to cram too many MP5 mags in a pouch.. or when you pull them out.. the others may follow it.. right out onto the floor..
I put no more than 2 MP5 mags in a pouch designed for a standard 5.56 mag Often I will only put one.. if the pouch has a flap.. Double 5.56 magpouches will fit 4 MP5 mags... but getting the first one out often results in the others following it out on their own.. don't put more than 3 in such a pouch so.. 2 MP5 mags will fit and be deployed well from a pouch designed for one 5.56 mag or one 7.62 mag. 3 MP5 mags will fit in a pouch designed for 2 5.56 or 2 7.62
