Airsoft Ballistics

Hey everyone,

I just saw a video on MechBox.com (http://www.mechbox.com/site/reviews/) of some Austrians doing a compare & contrast between a real-steel M4 and a Systema M4 training weapon. I noticed that at 20m, the spread of the shots were not that impressive from the Systema. Now the reason why i am posting this is that whenever i talk to airsofters, they claim that the range and accuracy of airsoft blows away that of paintball, yet the video i just mentioned didn't leave me with that impression, but rather that the airsoft gun was equal--maybe slightly better than a well-upped paintball marker. That being said, i wanted to compile a little bit of info on gun stats. So, try to fill it out like this:
----------
Stock <insert gun/manufacturer here>
Range in feet: <insert here>
FPS: <insert here>
Grouping in inches : <insert here>
BB weight: <insert here>

Upgraded <insert gun/manufacturer here>
Upgrades: <insert here> (if you want to post details such as which size of TB barrel you installed, that would be helpful as well)
Range in feet: <insert here>
FPS: <insert here>
Grouping in inches: <insert here>
BB weight: <insert here>
----------
NOTE: For all practicality of this, we will just assume that the condidtions with which you obtained your results were "normal", meaning that you didn't have to go to extreme lengths to obtain your results. An example of extreme would be shooting your AEG in a vaccum so as to not be affected by wind etc...

Also, if you want to post your gun info, but didn't test it stock, that is fine, just list the upgrades that are in your gun and its stats.

Thanks to all who post,
remember, this is just for fun, so please no flaming or stupid comments, if you dont like this thread, dont post in it

I'll pop in first to say that I think it might be a worthwhile post to compare paintball to airsoft. I've read and contributed (as well as discussed in person) how much more accurate airsoft is over paintball, more so at ranges past 60ft. I feel it's worth compiling, and maybe even making a sticky out of.

Carry on, I tend not to flame, even more so for posts I feel are worthy of keeping and discussing. So since I got here first, things might actually be informative after this.

Sorry to sound so negative, but I seriously doubt that you'd get much in the way of definitive results doing this. The problem is that these measurements are often very subjective, and most claims aren't actually measured (or all claims are measured in a different manner).
This site will give you a lot of info on range, but not groupings:

Giving this thread a quick read would probably be a good idea before getting started (especially the comments exchanged between The Bushman and greg)

As to my own personal experience, I've never recorded any groups, but I can tell you for sure that a stock TM AUG is MUCH more accurate/has more range than a stock Tippmann A5. As to upgraded performance, I've never seen the top end of paintball markers, so I can't comment.

There's one thing you have to consider, with this method, and that is that not all guns are upgraded equally. Some people are very adept at upgrading an AEG for performance and field guns that are just plain killer. But there's another segment of players who just haphazardly drop shit into their mechbox, usually in a cost-driven manner, trying to get more FPS because they feel that will resolve all their problems. And some guns are just plain great stock.

Do you have a gun yet? Seriously, Don't worry about these shitz if you don't even have one yet. Personally, I've played both sports and prefer Airsoft's range and accuracy over paintball any second of the minute.

The guy in the video didn't even say what weight of BBs he was using, a 0.25g is WAAAAAAAAAAAY more accurate in my experience than 0.2gs.

It all differs too much to give a exact judgment, but the general idea is that Airsoft > Paintball.

My SR-25 from CA is extremely accurate with 0.30g. It's not super upgraded (yet hehe) but as a semi-auto sniper... jesus almighty i'm glad i'm not on the end of the barrel!!!

I don't have hard data at hand, but I have experience with both paintball and airsoft. All I can say is airsof is more acurate than paintball at ANY distance in general.

In paintball, you need several "rounds" to hit a head past 75ft with a standard gun. Any normal lenght, stock airsoft gun can hit a head size object at 75fp and beyond with one or 2 shots. Just because of the hopup.

yes, removed the S to be more understandable.
I think abreviations don't conjugate... I'm bad with conjugaisons.
