MP5 Headache

Worked on my own mechbox many times. But am somewhat puzzled by this one.

Its an ICS mp5a5. It recently stopped shooting. By shooting, I mean the motor turning the gears over to power the spring. This was after it was left unused for a good 6-7 months. So I stripped her down to see that there was some wear to my gears. A few small shavings etc. All the gears looked fine enough to be running (although I would like to get around to replacing them). The cylinder set seemed fine, along with all my connections. I run an EG 1000 motor. After inspecting the gearbox I ran the motor, it works fine. Each unit seems to function well on its own, but when used together.. the gun does not work. I was thinking it has to be an alignment problem. The plate on the pistol grip has 2 screws that hold the motor and heat sync plate in place. One of the screws fell out so I had to replace it with a non airsoft related screw last season. Was working fine, but it could be the cause of the misalignment too. I have hit a wall, dont know what to do. I supposed I could try to jump start the gun with a 12v battery. Any suggestions are appreciated. I can supply pictures and/or more information if needed.

- Is everything in the mechbox stock?

- how used is the gun? ie are you still useing plastic bushings after shooting 10000000 bb's ? worn down bushings will misalign yoru gears and cause them to seize.

- Did you test that your gears are shimmed correctly? Take out the piston and spring, screw the mechbox halfs back together tightly, then try spinning the gears. If they don't move freely, you'll have to re-shim.

- Confirm that the nozzel can move on the piston head freely and the tappet plate is locked into it correctly.

- Confirm that the spring for the tappet plate and switch is installed correctly as sometimes if it's on wrong it can cause binding.

- Is the motor meshed correctly to the bevel gear, and are the gears in good shape or are they stripped/pitted?

If it stopped working after you reassembled it, chances are you put the motor in backwards.

if the above is correct, verrify that the red wire and the red post of the motor is facing towards the barrel. the black wire and the black post of the motor faces the stock of the gun.
