Mag pouch opinions
Right now I'm running a triple-M4 mag pouch on my chest rig, with room for 6 mags. Its just the right amount of ammunition, but I'm finding the velcro cover to be too loud and obstructive.
For those who use pouches with a pararcord/elastic retainer, do you find them to be functional? I'd like to switch over to a triple M4 insert in my 6094 carrier with a molle triple pouch on the front. If you have a set up you recommend, I'm open to suggestions. |

Just remove the velcro cover. If the mags have the elastic around the bottom, that alone will hold them in the pouches. I ran my double mag pouches like that for years.

On my chest rig I originally had three m4 (burrito-style) pouches, I've since switched to two m4 pouches plus a single open-top/universal-style mag pouch. I find this lets me have the best of both worlds.
The open-top pouch acts as my quick and silent reload. As soon as I'm out of the line of fire I re-shuffle my mags from the burrito pouches, moving a fresh mag into the open-top pouch. This way my open-top pouch is always (ideally) my point of contact. If you're in such a heated battle that you need to swap mags more than once, stealth is probably the least of your concerns because the enemy probably knows where you are. My open-top pouch has another utility pouch in-front of it, but you get the idea... |
