weirdest problem I ever encountered.

Ok, so I'm building my project gun from spare parts, replaced with some upgraded parts. Parts that I replaced are the trigger assembly(shortage did occur when I used the upgraded trigger assembly. So not to sure if the contacts are fried after the shortage). Selector plate, piston, piston head, cylinder, cylinder head, and nozzle. So I put everything together gearbox locked and tight gear spinning smoothly. Pulled the trigger, couple cycles after it just stops and the trigger is sticking. Took it apart figuring its not the gears locking. I connected the wires to the motor without being in the gearbox. motor does't work so I switched the motor from my other aeg which is working fine, still won't work. So took apart the gearbox checked the trigger mech everything seems to be in place so I assembled everything again. Same thing, after a couple of cycles it stops completely and the trigger is sticking to the pull position for a half second after each trigger pull with no cycle. Also tried putting the stock trigger assembly still the same results.

I was told that the gearbox was a g&p. But I think its a g&g, not to sure because I've only worked on 1 aeg ever since I started. So I can't determine what brand the gearbox is. Upgrade parts are all modify except for the trigger assembly which is lonex.

thanks for reading.

Remove the cylinder assembly group, close the mechbox and observe the trigger sled when you pull the trigger - what happens?

Check the left side of the gearbox shell and look for a little square piece of casting sticking up behind the trigger block. If it is missing you need a new gearbox shell.

the square cast piece he's talking about might also be a black screw post in some mechboxes

If that piece is missing you can replace it with a small flat head screw just drill it out. I posted a how to a while ago on it

if the post is there, gut the cylinder/tappet from the box and hook up the wires tot he motor externally, pull the trigger as stealth recommends and observe. I had a g&p trigger set and wires and mechanical trigger in a src box do exactly what you're describing. As soon as I matched the src trigger bits back to the gearbox it started working.

It's possible something doesn't sit right after a couple pulls and the shuttle can't reach the gate prongs anymore until you disassemble and reassemble.

Might be the trigger is incompatible with the switch too, might have to try different triggers.
Weird that this issue never came up 4+ years ago lol

all the G&G gearboxes i have worked on [ver2 cansoft era & newer] don't have the tab cutouts in the back end and the screws go in from the back side of the mechbox when you have it laying down to work on it.

This is going to sound stupid, but I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the trigger spring being broken...

You can't really "fry" a trigger unit, there is really nothing to "fry" in there. Worst that will happen is the plastic will melt and move a bit. Or you get carbon on the contacts.

This will happen when you mix-match trigger parts. I saw the same thing in a G&G mechbox (coincidence?) when installing a Modify trigger kit. Had to cut/file some material to get everything working (and still get a few glitches).

Thanks for the help guys.!

And keith if I brought it there and have you to look at it. I might ask challenger to compensate and ask for a new gun for what you would have done.
