Battery care questions
First off, I have an 8.4v large 1700mAH NiCAD battery
and a cheap regular wall mount charger: input:120v-60Hz 6w output:12v-200mA Now I was not aware that a quality charger was needed at the time, so I charged my large 8.4v 1700mAH NiCAD battery with that cheap wall charger that I believe is only ment for up to 1300mAH (Im not sure where I would find out what kind of batteries it could charge). I charged it for about 10 hours. After about 9 hours the battery began to get hot so i let it go for another hour and pulled the plug. Is the charger I have not good enough for my battery? And did I do any ddamage to the battery? Or and I just paranoid? (sorry if this question has been answered 1000 times) also what is the diference between a NiCAD and a NiMH battery? |

Better to just get a better charger than the wall one. Wall chargers like yours are oik for 600mAh minis, but for one as big as yours (imagine having an 8.4V 3300mAh battery like I just bought for my MP5!!! With your charger it'd take almost 17 hours to charge it at 200mAh.......... 3300/200= 16.5hrs.) And batteries do get hot while they charge, but you shouldn't let it get too hot.

For a charger I recommend the duratrax peak chargers.

from the sound of things it seems like a new charger would be ideal.
But what about what I did? Would charging the battery with the cheap charger I have damage the battery or shorten its life? |

Guy from DEA said the wallcharger is what to use for his 8.4V 3000mah batt...
Never mentioned to pick up a better charger...
