My Platypus brand bladder does that, you need to suck the air out of it to get the water to flow....

take the bite valve off the tube and see if water will flow. are you sure it doesn't have a shut off valve near the bite valve?
what brand pack/bladder? |

I have a condor one and it's both bite and pull, grab the hard plastic part at the end of the straw (not the part you bite) and pull on it. the hard plastic part should go a cm longer as it has a built in plug inside.
when you suck on it do you get air or do you get nothing? if you get nothing there is a plug on the hard plastic part. fiddle with that |

For my condor hydro carrier, I have to turn the valve and bite.
It's a bit hard to see, but it has "ON" and "OFF" arrows by the valve.

The answer to your problem is likely simple, if it's similar to how my condor hydration pack works.. The end of the hose is higher than the water level in the bladder, and won't just come out by sucking. You need to use it like a syphon hose: get the water flowing and the pressure difference will keep it flowing.
So, if this is your problem, here's how to solve it: 1. Fill up the bladder 2. Attach the tube 3. Put the end of the tube lower than the water in the bladder 4. Open the valve and squeeze the end 5. When water starts flowing, close the valve You should now have started the water's "syphoning action" out of the bladder and should be able to suck water out of it normally. Hope this helped! |
