Which scope for "sniping"
So, my bar should be coming in the mail soon, so i was wondering whether you guys thought about which scope I should get. I'm somewhere between a 4x32 and a 3-9x40. Please state why too please :P

The lower base magnification, the better. Because this is what you'll be using to do most of your shooting. Having a zoom option is useful, too.
The reason you want a lower magnification is simply because airsoft doesn't have the range required for any sort of magnification beyond 4x, having more visibility to shoot with (A good FOV makes great for sniping, easier target acquisition and etc.). Zoom would just be used to 'scout' and see things in the distance more easily |

My scope is set on 5x most of the time, is very useful. I'll dial it to 3x when I need to scout a wider area when gathering intel, and I'll dial in 9x when I am scoping well past my shooting distance (a couple places I play have over 500ft line of sight) when on recce/overwatch for my team.
Also, a larger objective lense will gather more light, making it easier to use the scope in low light or even at night (provided there is some moonlight around). Better glass works better in the latter. |

3-9x40mm is the best bang for your buck.
I usually shoot at 3x. 9x is more for IDing targets and long range observation. Stay away from cheap brands and replicas. Image quality will suffer greatly. I've always been happy with Bushnell hunting scopes. For abour 100$ you get a very good scope. And for the record, I hate Tasco. Their similar scopes in that range are worth shit. I tried to game one, and I ended up ditching the rifle in the car, as the whole thing was useless. Poor field of view, poor image quality, poor light gathering.

Tanx. I think I'm developping dyslexia. It's been worsening since a few years ago.
Combined with a smaller than usual keyboard that make me hit the wrong key pretty often...

LOL.....
Fox and Stalker have nailed it down for you. I am presently looking at "upgrading" my old Bushnell for a Falcon 5.5-25X50 FFP for a good all around scope ($544 and up). As once you start going over a 42 mm objective lens, the price jumps big time....especially if the scope has a front focal lens. And even though I'm liking the Falcon scopes, my budget is screams to keep looking back to a Bushnell Trophy scope......yeah, more bang for the buck. SHA DO

5x is way too much. my scope starts at 3.5x and i keep it there pretty much permanently. any further and it gets harder and harder to figure out where exactly you're pointing relative to your target when you shoulder the gun. this is especially tricky when you're in a wooded area and depth of field starts playing tricks on you.
rifle scopes are designed for distances well beyond the ranges our guns can shoot. if you want an effective airsoft shooting scope, get one that works well on low magnification and follow the same rule photographers do: the best zoom is your legs. if the dude is too small in your scope, you're too goddamn far away to shoot him anyway so try to get closer and make something of yourself.

And 5x is quite fine for my use, even in thick brush and only shooting within 120ft, allows me to actually shoot through the open spots between branches in the way. In the end, the user will determine what works best for them, but limiting oneself to a 4x only scope is like trying to run a three leg race with a flip flop. 3-9x40 is the best of all uses, and users will determine what they prefer to use mostly. I use a 1.5X-6X it gets used in 1.5 to 2.5 for shooting.. and only ever past there for target identification.
