Actually that is what I am doing, I use my uvd1P to listen to both channel, and reply on A with the UVD1P and I also have a gmrs on mute that I use to transmit on B. I have shoulder mounted PTT for both, so right shoulder is command, left shoulder is squad.

Ah, interesting!
So do you use 2 headsets then? or some sort of adapter to combine all audio into one headset? |

No, the UVD1 can actually listen on 2 channels at the same time.

I understand recieving is handled by the one radio for both channels.
So how do you TRANSMIT to each radio? You have ptt rig for each radio, so what is attached to each ptt? |

Oh, for each of the radio I have this:
On the UVD1 I have a earphone (mono, well actually a stereo which I cut one side) attached (look at the underside of the speaker mic, there is a plug for earphone. But if you get the Wouxun 689E or the older UVD1 (Not P) you don't even need a second radio, since it will transmit automatically on the channel it received last. O.K., I'm just confirming just to... well, not make a bad decision.
The "P" model will listen to two channels, but only transmit on one, you must press a button to change which the transmitting channel is. The "Classic" model listens on two channels and will transmit on the last channel that it recieved something from. Excellent, then I need the "P" model. I need to be able to monitor the command channel, but transmit to my team. I don't want to accidentally be adding clutter to the command channel. On a different vein Have you tried any external antennas? I'm looking at the Diamond SRHF40, it's got a bit of gain, but can easily be woven through molle, and get higher on the shoulder so I'm not having as much body losses. Quote:
There are two radio adapters for the headset, Atlantic Signal makes one (Sorry, site seems to be not getting through ATM, so no link). There are even adapters for antennas, which is more annoying because you're dealing with transmitting level power, instead of audio level power. http://www.radioshop888.com/radiosho....php?id=103015 So you can have two radios using 1 antenna (if you're trying to conceal capiability, or have a really high quality, expensive antenna) or one radio using two antennas (If your body losses are exceptionally high, i.e. you're big and round (high water contenent) or are carrying alot of metal). |
